Posterior tibial tendonitis is a progressive condition of the foot and ankle that if left untreated will likely get worse. Without arch support flat foot will occur. PTTD is generally divided into three stages:
- Stage I - Posterior tibial tendonitis without a tendon tear.
- Stage II - Partial or complete tear of the posterior tibial tendon.
- Stage III - Partial or complete tear of the posterior tibial tendon, along with rigid flat feet.
