The practitioners at All Pro Medical Supplies keep up with their continuing education requirements.  This week they participated in Heritage Medical Equipment's on-site seminar "Bracing the Arthritic Knee".  The ABC and BOC approved this course for 2.5 CEUs.

Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction (PTTD) is one of the most common problems of the foot and ankle. It occurs when the posterior tibial tendon becomes inflamed or torn.  This often results in flatfoot.  Most patients can be treated without surgery, using orthotics and braces.

This presentation analyzes recent scientific studies surrounding the use of orthotics as treatment options for posterior tibial tendon dysfunction.  The live presentation will include a casting for a Premier Ankle Brace - paying special attention to heel posting.  A sample will be built by Townsend from the cast.

Pac Rim 2012

Paul Chryst and Kurt Towson are at the 2012 Pac Rim Meeting in Honolulu.  Where are you?  The USISPO Pacific Forum for Rehabilitation is going on right now!  The exhibit hall overlooks the pool, and the attendees are in floral prints and shorts - not a jacket and tie to be seen.  This is orthotic and prosthetic continuing education at its finest.

 

 

Nouveau Prosthetics - Continuing Education

Vinny Palmieri and Glenn Easton recently participated in Heritage Medical Equipment's countinuing education course on pre-fabricated back braces.  They work at Noveau Prosthetics, a full service orthotic and prosthetic facility located in Brooklyn, NY.  

We discussed which back braces are appropriate for lower back pain, mechanical back pain, herniated dics, osteoporosis, and compression fractures.  We also discussed the Reasonable Useful Life (RUL) requirements imposed by Medicare and Medicaid, L-Codes, PDAC Letters, and pricing.

The ABC and BOC have approved this cme presentation for 1.5 ceus.

Glen Honcharik and Joseph Evans of Somerset Prosthetics & Orthotics recently participated in Heritage Medical Equipment's "Bracing the Arthritic Knee" course.  We discussed the importance of knee braces as treatment options for patients suffering with knee osteoarthritis.

ABC Approved CEUs in the Upper East Side

Stephen Hall runs the Eastside Orthotics & Prosthetics office located at 417 East 72nd Street in Manhattan.  Eastside is a full service orthotic and prosthetic facility close to the Hospital For Special Surgery and NYU.

Stephen participated in the "Bracing the Arthritic Knee" course and earned 2.5 scientific continuing education credits.  We talked about Townsend Design Unloader Knee Braces, choosing the right brace for the right patient, and how the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons views the use of knee braces to treat unicompartmental osteoarthritis.  

Stephen has been fitting IPOPs and orthopedic braces in New York City for years.  He has lots of experience and knows his stuff.   

Continuing Education in Farmingdale

 

Soris Tribino and Kathryn Bethel of BT Orthotic Labs hosted their 2nd Heritage Medical Equipment continuing education course.  Bracing the Arthritic Knee was presented for 2.5 ABC approved scientific credits last week.

We discussed the short-comings of the AAOS 2008 Treatment Guideline For Knee Osteoarthritis, specifically how the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons contradicted themselves with their recommendation regarding knee braces.  The AAOS supported treating OA with unloader knee braces in their 2004 Position Statement as well as in their own Journal in 2006.  Why did the orthopedic community change their minds?  Schedule a course for your facility to find out.

Vinny Palmieri, CO from Nouveau Prosthetics in Brooklyn participated in our continuing education course, Bracing the Arthritic Knee.  Nouveau Prosthetics is a full service orthotic and prosthetic facility located in Brooklyn on Fort Hamilton Parkway close to Maimonides Medical Center.

We discussed the discrepancy in the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons' 2008 and 2004 positions on using knee braces to treat osteoarthritis.  We also talked about how to choose the right brace for the right patient and dissected the studies surrounding the AAOS's decisions.

 

 

Breakfast Stromboli and CEUs

If you look closely at the table you might be able to see some crumbs from John Berteletti's breakfast stromboli.  It went quick.  John and the practitioners from NOPCO of NJ enjoyed breakfast with their ABC approved in-service about knee braces and osteoarthritis.  The NOPCO office is a full-service orthotic and prosthetic facility located in East Brunswick, NJ serving Middlesex County and the surrounding areas.  They specialize in pediatric patients but see adults as well.

CEUs and full bellies.  Great way to start the Memorial Day weekend.  

 

Bracing the Arthritic Knee at Ortho Bionics Labs

David Schweitzman, CPO participated in Heritage Medical's "Bracing the Arthritic Knee" CEU presentation yesterday.  Dave was the first practitioner to figure out the location of the Erasmus Medical Center, and also scored a 100% on his test without any help from the instructor.  Go Dave!  If you don't understand the relevance of the Erasmus Medical Center as it relates to arthritis knee braces then it is probably time you scheduled a presentation for your facility.
